At Basin Heritage Initiative, our vision is to create a community where different generations can find common ground to share their traditions, heritage and culture! By creating opportunities for that connection to happen, we can build stronger communities.
WANTED! THE BEST APPLE PIE BAKERS AND CHILI MASTERS IN THE WEST! For the Basin Heritage Great Apple Pie Bake Off and Chili Cook Off Fundraiser Dinner on September 28th at Basin City Arts Center from 6-8:30pm! Basin Heritage Initiative Is Partnering with Medicine Lodge Archeological Site and Basin Chamber of Commerce to put on a wonderful two part event as a part of our Recipes and Roots Initiative: Building Community Connection Across Generations. Our first event is called "Core Connections", Sunday September 21st. We are inviting all ages to come and enjoy a beautiful afternoon in Medicine Lodge. We will all gather at 12:15pm to travel to Medicine Lodge State Archeological Site. We will have a picnic lunch at the apple orchard. Our youth will be picking apples (prizes for the team who picks the most apples!) and our older generations get to enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, relaxing under the shaded picnic area, and watching our younger kids having fun in the apple orchard. At 3pm Heather Jolley will be giving a wonderful presentation about the apple orchards and providing us all with a wonderful Apple Dutch Oven Dessert! We will then leave at 4pm and head back to Basin.
We will store the apples to prepare for our next event on September 28th! If you cannot go on the trip to Medicine Lodge, Don't let that stop you from entering a team for the Great Apple Pie Bake Off! We are wanting teams that are pairing an older generational person who is sharing their recipe with one or two youth to be able to teach them the skill and tradition of making an apple pie from scratch. The youth are to do the labor of making the pie under the direction of their team leader. When you sign up your team you need to name your team and we will provide you with apples and pie tins for your pies. For each entry a 9 inch pie pan and a mini pie pan for the judges to taste test and vote. Your 9in pie will be auctioned off in a silent auction that evening at the Fundraiser Dinner at Basin City Arts Center. A team can enter as many pies as they want if they have different versions they want to make. Pies are to be made by September 28th and taken to the Basin City Arts Center with their entry form no later than 4pm for submission. Judging and the silent auction will occur during the Fundraiser Dinner. CASH AND PRIZES FOR 1st, 2nd and 3rd places!
This is a great project for churches, for families, neighbors, schools and organizations to engage in a wonderful activity, building tradition and passing on the heritage that comes with the delicate process of baking an apple pie from scratch.
